Laclede Industries Celebrates Day of Choice with City Facility Visit

Lebanon Mayor Jared Carr spoke with participants during their visit to council chambers.

LEBANON, MO – On March 5, 2025, when inclement weather forced the cancellation of the 2025 Day of Choice event at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, Laclede Industries and its dedicated employees didn’t let it dampen their spirits. Instead, they found the next best thing — the heart of their own city’s government.

Originally set to gather with others across the state in advocating for employment choices for individuals with disabilities, the group quickly adapted when their trip was canceled. Staff reached out to the team at Lebanon City Hall, who readily agreed to share the workings of city government and quickly arranged a warm welcome.

Their visit began at Fire Station #3, where they received a guided tour of the facility and an up-close look at the fire apparatus used to protect the community. From there, the group made their way to Lebanon City Hall, where they were warmly welcomed by Mayor Jared Carr.

“We’re glad to have them here at City Hall,” Mayor Carr said. “They contribute so much to our community, and it’s great to see them engaging with and learning more about their city government.”

While at City Hall, participants toured the Stanley H. Allen Council Chambers and had the opportunity to take a commemorative photo with the mayor behind the city council dais. The visit continued with a tour of the Lebanon Police Department, where highlights included a hands-on look at a police vehicle in the sally port, an exploration of the holding cells, and a stop in the interrogation room.

The Importance of the Day of Choice

Linda Kimrey, CEO of Laclede Industries, expressed gratitude for the City of Lebanon’s hospitality and support. “Today was meant to be a day to celebrate the right of individuals with disabilities to choose their own employment paths,” she said. “While we weren’t able to be at the Capitol, we are so thankful that the City of Lebanon stepped up to support these hardworking men and women.”

The Day of Choice is a statewide initiative where individuals with disabilities, known as the Missouri A Team, come together to showcase their workforce contributions and advocate for diverse employment opportunities. Wearing their signature green shirts as a symbol of their right to choose, participants proudly showcase their commitment to ensuring Extended Employment Sheltered Workshops like Laclede Industries remain accessible and viable.

Kimrey said Laclede Industries and its employees deeply appreciate the City of Lebanon’s recognition of the importance of employment choices. The city also supports Laclede Industries through agreements that provide employment opportunities for its workers, who help maintain the appearance of downtown Lebanon by keeping streets clean and tending to vegetation. The team also assists the city with managing nuisance violations by helping to clear litter, remove debris, and maintain spaces that have been designated for cleanup.

“The city's continued support reinforces our shared commitment to providing meaningful job opportunities for every differently abled individual who wishes to contribute to our community,” Kimrey said. “Providing these opportunities not only fosters financial independence but also instills a strong sense of purpose and inclusion, allowing employees to take pride in their contributions.”

Lebanon Fire Department Capt. Terry Saltzman talked about firefighting operations while Fire Fighter Samuel Davidson models firefighting gear.

Lt. Mark Manning shared information about a police vehicle with participants.
