BCI Expands Mission with Acquisition of Lincoln County Facility
Patty is one of 40 adults with disabilities who find meaning and purpose through employment at BCI’s Lincoln County facility in Moscow Mills. BCI recently purchased the previously leased space and will begin a 10,000-square-foot expansion later this year.
The facility, initially leased in 2011 and situated at 245 College Campus Drive in Moscow Mills, serves as a vital hub for BCI’s mission, employing 40 adults with disabilities while offering contract packaging and light manufacturing services to both local and national clients.
BCI’s decision to acquire the 23,000-square-foot building underscores its dedication to serving Lincoln County. Additionally, plans are underway for a 10,000-square-foot expansion later this year, furthering the nonprofit’s ability to expand its regional programs and services.
“We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of the Lincoln County plant,” said BCI CEO Troy Compardo. “This purchase underscores our dedication to creating a world where disabilities are no longer barriers to achieving potential and purpose through work.”
Zero-interest financing for the acquisition was secured through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program. The USDA program fully funds projects in rural areas that create and retain jobs and loans are applied for through local utility organizations. Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (CREC) served as BCI’s pass-through utility. CREC President and CEO Doug Tracy, who also serves on BCI’s board of directors, played a pivotal role in bringing the funding opportunity to light.
BCI has purchased its Lincoln County location.
In St. Charles County, BCI’s main campus in St. Peters will continue to serve as the non-profit’s headquarters. With 102,000 square feet of production, office, and training space spread over three buildings (two BCI-owned), the location employs 188 adults with disabilities. The St. Peters campus also houses BCI’s administrative offices and competitive employment and Skills Center programs that facilitate competitive, integrated, community employment for 100+ more people each year.
“According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 10.6% of Lincoln County’s roughly 65,000 residents live with a disability and are under the age of 65,” added Compardo. “With this expansion, BCI is positioned to extend services to hundreds more individuals in the region, ensuring support for decades to come.”
