Workshops, Employees Thank Congresswoman Hartzler

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-Missouri) recently received a token of appreciation from the Missouri’s workshops.

MASWM-MESA Legislative Co-Chair Kit Brewer said Rep. Hartzler was thanked for all of her support of workshop employees and employment options. On July 24, the Congresswoman filed 6471, a bill seeking to re-establish the relationships between school districts and Missouri’s Extended Employment Program.

The WIOA Regulations prohibit any contractual relationship between Districts and holders of a 14(c) Certification. That regulation was put in place largely due to what has been described as a ‘pipeline’ between schools and sheltered employers in many states.

NO such relationship has existed in Missouri, however. In fact only 1.5 percent of individuals with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) leaving Missouri high schools are employed in Missouri’s Extended Employment Program. The ‘pipeline’ in many states showed figures of 40 to 80% of students placed in sheltered employment.
