Board Faces Full Schedule for July 24 Meeting

Minutes of this meeting are availble in the Resource Library.
The MASWM-MESA Board of Directors held their summer meeting July 24 at Central Missouri Subcontracting Enterprises in Columbia.

In Attendance were Aaron Martin, Natalie Couch, Bruce Young, Susan Trump, Robert Greenwood, Melonie Nevels, Russ Kuttenkuler, Brian Hogan, Rob Libera, Linda Kimrey, Laura Giebler, plus guests Eric Giebler, Kit Brewer. President Martin welcomed the recently appointed Area V Director, Melonie Nevels.

Secretary Couch, Treasurer Greenwood and Dan Gier, Sheltered Workshop director for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, gave reports.

Legislative Co-Chair Brewer noted the excellent turnout for the fourth annual Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C., with 38 participants representing a good mix of employees, families, and staff.

Legislative Co-Chair Hogan suggested the creation of an award to recognize a state of federal leader for their support of workshops. The concept was approved and the first honor will be awarded at the October meeting.

Discussion also focused on the competitive employment bill, HR873, which would demand that workshop centers meet competitive integrated employment definitions. Another topic involved a bill introduced by Missouri Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler.

For several hours before and after the meeting, Board members interviewed candidates for the new, executive director position.

The board holds monthly conference calls as well as formal meetings in July and at MASWM’s three annual meetings in January, April and October.
